First Snow

Chicagoland rain
When mercury flees its roost
Suddenly is snow.

My office window
Shows “The Garden” frozen white
While birds still fly by.

snowy scene
Heart above his head
In Japanese and English
Warns us, “Be careful!”

What is this figure,
This masked paragon of stealth?
It’s Safe-T-Ninja!

shadowy ornament

(I like Haiku Fight,
But soon enough I’ll wear out.
Hard to blog haiku.)

update 2004.11.24 @16:34
Snow keeps thickening;

Now it sticks to the pavement.
Office closed early.

I’m still here until
Today is in database.
Wish me luck driving!

Ogden Nash

I once thought I’d be
A regular Ogden Nash.
Hey, a guy can dream.

Poetic Justice?

Perhaps it’s fitting
That foes of capitalists
Make “fat cats” fatter.

It is offensive
To see murderers in style;
Justice is two-edged.

Still, I hope that Che
Is spinning in his grave like
A Rotissomat.

(More on Babalu;
Hat tip goes out to my man,
The net’s coolest pig.)

Haiku Fight

Haiku, small poems:
Not much effort in writing,
Much fun in sending.

Canthros writes haiku.
I write them right back at him.
It is Haiku Fight.

True, our haiku stink;
Not fair nor even serene.
But at least there are many.

Several monkeys;
Lots and lots of small haiku
In time beauty show?

Comments may soon show
For Haiku Fight on this blog.
One can only hope.

ACLU Not Current On Its Shots

The ACLU is having a rabies relapse, and is after the Boy Scouts… again.

After an election season, it always helps me to look at these sorts of issues to remind me that those I oppose politically aren’t organized according to party or candidate sponsorship, but a mindset that promotes the disruption of American lifestyles and institutions, whether that be in the name of Sharia, political correctness, or even Christian fundamentalism.

It also helps to remind me that we’re surrounded by litigious nutcases on all sides.

James Lileks gives an editorial view.
