The Headcrab Speaks! – Underground NVIDIA Drivers

I game with an nVidia GeForce 4 Ti 4600.

I was getting a LOT of the dreaded IRQL_LESS_THAN_OR_NOT_EQUAL Blue Screen of Death interspersed with various crashes, and I was already running the latest video drivers on nVidia’s site, 66.93.

But once I upgraded to 71.20, the crash went away.

Interestingly, these new drivers seem to fix the problem that nVidia drivers have had since the dawn of Win2k, specifically the tendency to default to 60Hz for every resolution in every situation, unless explicitly and tediously told otherwise. I may have been living in a corner case, but so far, it has chosen the optimal (read: highest possible as defined by my monitor driver) refresh rate every time.

(By the way, The Guru of 3D is where I go for pretty much all of my pre-release and custom video drivers these days, just in case you were looking for such a place.)

What do you mean

you’ve never heard of “wackyparse”?

(And why are my updates STILL BROKEN, forcing me to top-level post this?)

Wackyparse: “born deaf”

“born decaf”

I imagine that both are crippling handicaps.

The Headcrab Speaks! – Got My Attention

Todays Steam News Update

Half-Life 2
  • Optimization to the Steam filesystem to reduce game launch and level transition time.

I hope this helps. That would make the game that much cooler to play.

update 2004.12.14 @23:11
It doesn’t seem to help.
